What we keep, and what we don’t.

ABC ("Arianna's Book Club") is a private, invitation-only network for people who read together. The service is operated by Arianna's Book Club LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("we," "us"). For any privacy question, reach us at privacy@theabcclub.co or by post at 301 E Hopkins Ave Unit 101, Aspen, CO 81611, United States.

When you join and use ABC, we collect:

• Your name and email address.
• How you sign in: a Sign in with Apple identifier, or an email and password (the password is kept only as a hashed value we never see).
• Optionally, your city and an approximate, city-level location, a note about who introduced you, and a short list of favorite books.
• Optionally, your phone number. It stays private unless you choose to show it to members of your chapters.
• The chapters you belong to and your role in each.
• Content you create: posts, notes, RSVPs, spread items you claim, votes you cast, books you add to your shelf, and the invitations you create or redeem.
• Introductions and private messages (Direct Lines) you send or receive.
• Your account identifier.
• Basic product activity: which monthly Picks you have read and your Fresh Ink word-game plays.

We do not run analytics, ad trackers, or third-party pixels. Session cookies are used only to keep you signed in.

We use your information to run the product you signed up for: to show you your chapters, display your posts to other members of those chapters, surface what other chapters in the network are reading, connect you through introductions, and send the invitations you create.

For members in the EU and UK, our legal bases are:

• Running your account and chapters, showing your posts to your chapters, and sending invitations you create: performance of our contract with you.
• Optional items such as your phone number, location, and profile discoverability: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Keeping the service secure and preventing abuse: our legitimate interests.

Location is optional. If you tap "Use my location" or type a city in your settings, we store an approximate, city-level location on your profile so we can show you chapters near you. We do not store your precise device position. We read your device location only when you ask us to, never in the background, and we do not track your movements. You can change your city or remove your location entirely at any time in Settings, and the app works fully without it.

If you turn on notifications, we use Apple Push Notification service to deliver them to your device, such as a new message or the monthly Pick. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Members of your chapter see your name, what you have posted, voted for, or RSVP'd to, and your public profile (the favorite books and chapter memberships you have chosen to make discoverable). Outside the chapter, your public profile shows only what you have chosen to display. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

We share information with the service providers we rely on to run ABC:

• Vercel hosts the app and receives network logs as part of serving requests.
• Supabase stores our database (Postgres).
• Google Books and Open Library receive the book searches you type, so we can fetch covers and metadata.
• Google Places completes the city names you type; on iPhone, your coordinates are turned into a city name by Apple's on-device geocoder.
• Sign in with Apple is handled by Apple.
• Apple Push Notification service delivers your notifications.

We are based in the United States and store your data there. If you are in the EEA or the UK, your data is transferred to the US. For those transfers we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and the UK Addendum for UK data, as the safeguard. Contact us for more detail.

We set a single session cookie when you sign in, so the site knows it is you. We do not use tracking cookies, and we do not need a cookie banner because we do not do anything that requires one.

You can see everything tied to your account by visiting your profile and shelf. You can edit your favorites, remove books from your shelf, and delete your own posts at any time.

You can delete your account yourself, in the app, under Settings. Deletion removes your account and your personal data, and if you signed in with Apple we also revoke that connection with Apple. You can also email us to request deletion or a copy of your data, and we will handle it within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you also have the right to access, correct, delete, and receive a portable copy of your data, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to withdraw any consent you have given. Email privacy@theabcclub.co to exercise any of these. If you are in the EU or UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office), and UK members may complain directly to us at the same address; we will acknowledge it within 30 days.

If you are a California resident, you may request access to, deletion of, or correction of your personal information, and to know what we collect. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Email privacy@theabcclub.co to exercise these rights.

Your account and its content stay with us until you ask us to delete them. If you are removed from a chapter, your posts and votes from that chapter stay in the chapter record. We keep them because removing them would erase shared discussion for everyone else, which is our legitimate interest in preserving chapter history. Individual posts can still be deleted by you or by a chapter organizer.

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted to the service itself. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you entrust to us.

ABC is intended for adults and is rated 18+. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you are a parent and believe your child has signed up, contact us and we will remove the account.

If we materially change how we handle your data, we will update this page and notify members by email. The last-updated date at the top of this page is the canonical reference.
